SertifikaCertificates people can actually check

Privacy

Certificates are about other people's names, so this matters more here than it does in most products. Here is exactly what we hold and why.

If you teach

When you make an account we store your email address so we can sign you in. There is no password to steal because we don't use one. We email you a link instead.

If you fill them in, we also store the name that signs your certificates, your school or business name, your logo and the colour you picked. All of it is optional, all of it is editable, and all of it exists only so your certificates look like yours.

If you were given a certificate

Your instructor gives us your name and email address so we can send you your certificate. That's all we ask them for and all we keep.

Your name, your course, who gave it to you and the date are shown on a public page, because a certificate nobody can check isn't worth much. Your email address is never on that page and is never shown to anyone who looks your certificate up.

If you check somebody's certificate

You don't need an account and we don't ask for anything. We record that a certificate number was looked up, and roughly which country from, so the instructor can see how often their certificates get checked. We don't record who you are.

What we never do

  • Sell or rent anyone's details, to anyone, for any amount.
  • Show a student's email address on a public page.
  • Email students anything except their certificate and corrections to it.
  • Use anyone's name or work in advertising without asking first.

Who else can see it

Running this needs a few outside services: somewhere to keep the database, somewhere to keep the certificate files, and something to send email. They only ever see what they need to do their part, they are contractually bound to keep it confidential, and none of them are permitted to use it for their own purposes.

We hand over data to anyone else only if the law actually compels us to, and we'll tell you when we're allowed to.

How long we keep it

Certificates are meant to last, so they stay until the instructor withdraws or deletes them. That is the point of the product: an employer checking a five-year-old link deserves an answer.

If you close your account we remove your details within 30 days. Certificates you already sent are your students' records as much as yours, so tell us what you want done with them and we'll follow it.

Getting your data out, or removed

Write to us and ask. We'll send you a copy of everything we hold about you, correct anything wrong, or delete it. No forms and no arguing: usually the same day, and always within 30 days.

If your name is on a certificate and it's spelled wrong, ask whoever taught you first: they can fix it in a few seconds and the link stays the same. If you can't reach them, write to us.

Cookies

One cookie, so that signing in keeps you signed in. No advertising cookies and nothing that follows you to other sites. The certificate and checking pages set nothing at all, which is why they work without an account.

Ask us anything

Write to privacy@getsertifika.com and a person will answer. If we ever change something important here, we'll say so on this page and email anyone it affects.
